24 Sep Beaches Council on Aging’s 51st Anniversary | Look How Far We’ve Come
51 Years of Connecting Our Beaches Community
For 51 years, Beaches Council on Aging has been committed to improving the quality of life for senior residents of the Beaches by connecting them to people, services, and places with care.
What began in 1975 as an organization representing elder care concerns within the Beaches communities has grown into an important network of resources and services supporting older adults and individuals with disabilities. At the heart of that work is Dial-a-Ride, our flagship transportation program.
For more than five decades, the familiar white Dial-a-Ride bus has traveled through neighborhoods from Atlantic Beach to Ponte Vedra Beach, helping people get where they need to go safely and reliably.
As we celebrate our 51st anniversary, we’re taking a moment to look at how far we’ve come and, just as importantly, look ahead to what it will take to keep Dial-a-Ride moving for another 51 years.
More Than a Ride: The Impact of Dial-a-Ride
Transportation plays an important role in helping older adults age in place, remaining safely in the homes and neighborhoods they know and love.
But transportation is about more than getting from one destination to another.
A ride to a medical appointment can mean access to essential healthcare. A trip to the grocery store can help someone maintain their independence. A ride to a social activity can provide connection and help prevent isolation.
For seniors and individuals with disabilities who may otherwise be homebound, Dial-a-Ride can be the link between staying home and participating in everyday life.
Today, Beaches Council on Aging provides more than 1,000 essential rides each month, helping riders reach medical appointments, grocery stores, social activities, and other daily necessities.
And the need continues to grow. In 2025 alone, 111 new riders joined the Dial-a-Ride program, demonstrating the continued need for reliable and accessible senior transportation throughout the Beaches community.
A Year of Growing Support
Our 51st year has been marked by meaningful partnerships, community support, and investments in the future of senior care.
A New Van to Keep the Community Moving
The Ponte Vedra Beach Rotary Foundation recently donated a new 2025 Honda Odyssey to Beaches Council on Aging. The vehicle can accommodate up to eight passengers and replaces an older vehicle in the Dial-a-Ride fleet.
This kind of investment has a direct impact on our ability to serve riders. A reliable fleet allows Dial-a-Ride to continue providing safe, dependable transportation to the seniors and adults with disabilities who count on the program.
It is also an example of what can happen when community partners choose to invest in practical solutions that create a lasting impact.
Businesses Supporting Senior Independence
Community partnerships have also helped bring greater awareness and financial support to Dial-a-Ride.
During Senior Independence Month, Mayport Brewing Company partnered with Beaches Dial-a-Ride to raise funds for senior transportation. Throughout February, $3 from each featured specialty cocktail was donated to the program.
It was a simple way for a local business and its customers to come together around an important community need: helping older adults remain active, connected, and independent.
A $25,000 Investment in the Future
The Elderly Housing Management Corporation (EHMC) also made a significant investment in the future of Dial-a-Ride with a $25,000 contribution to the Beaches Council on Aging Endowment Fund.
EHMC’s support recognizes the important role transportation plays for residents of Pablo Towers, Pablo Suites, Pablo Hamlet, and older adults throughout the Beaches.
Gifts like this do more than support today’s rides. They help build a stronger financial foundation for the years ahead.
Building a Future for the Next 51 Years
One of the most important milestones in our anniversary journey was the launch of the Beaches Council on Aging Endowment Fund.
The Endowment Fund was announced during our 50th Anniversary Celebration as a long-term investment in the future of Dial-a-Ride. The organization established a three-year goal of raising $1 million, creating a sustainable source of support to help keep essential transportation available for future generations
The response from the Beaches community was inspiring.
Nearly $46,000 was raised during the 50th Anniversary Celebration alone, demonstrating how deeply our community values accessible transportation and the independence it provides.
The Endowment Fund is designed to help ensure that Dial-a-Ride can continue to say yes to riders who need us—even as the community’s needs change.

Looking Ahead: The Next 51 Years
For 51 years, Beaches Council on Aging has adapted to meet the needs of a growing Beaches senior population.
The familiar white Dial-a-Ride bus may be one of the most visible signs of our work, but behind every ride is something much bigger: a person who wants to remain independent, a family member who wants their loved one to stay connected, and a community that believes older adults deserve access to the people, services, and places that make life meaningful.
Our mission has remained constant:
Beaches Council on Aging improves the quality of life for senior residents of the Beaches by connecting them to people, services, and places with care.
The next 51 years will require the same thing that has carried us through the first 51: a community willing to show up.
With continued donations, partnerships, volunteers, and support, we can help ensure that Dial-a-Ride remains a vital part of senior care and community connection for years to come
We’ve come a long way since 1975. Now, let’s keep moving forward together.
